	Research Center Planned for Kannapolis could help this areas economy as well. 9/13.2005 Wake Forest, NC Announcements that DOLE, famous for pineapples and other products, will be spearheading the creation of a huge research center, has Kannapolis area residents excited about getting out of the dismal unemployment picture they have been faced with ever since losing thousands of textile jobs to overseas. They could present a competitive threat to the Triangle area, since they will be bidding to get employers to move there, rather than here. However, in the long run, having another area of advanced industry located in North Carolina should be good for the state and good for the possibility of collaboration. Sprint and Nextel $35B Merger Proceeding.
Texas company tries to block deal.

Sprint and Nextel have announced they have received FCC approval and are planning on completing a $35B merger on Friday, August 12, 2005. They plan to begin trading common stock as Sprint Nextel on the NYSE on Monday. Sprint, a Fortune 100 company has a large operation in Wake Forest, with 700 employees, and

currently trades on the NYSE under symbol FON. Nextel currently trades on NASDAQ with symbol NXTL. Airgate PCS, which is part of Alamoosa Holdings APCS, from Lubbock TX, largest affiliate of Sprint, has filed suit to try and block the deal. Neither of the media contacts for Sprint nor Nextel could be reached by phone for comment on how this could effect Wake Forest and Raleigh employment.
