Personal Recommendations for hotels and motels in or near Raleigh, Wake Forest, and NC RTP:
Extended Stay, Raleigh. Stayed here in 1999 during an employee relocation, at the expense of a company who had just hired me as a senior OpenVMS specialist and team leader. The room was nice and I’m glad to have had it when I needed it. Corporate relocations are a bit different than places to stay during vacations, so rating it is somewhat difficult because it is during a stressful time rather than a relaxing time. +++. jm Bias factor: None. I get no compensation for this recommendation.
There are no other personal recommendations for hotels and motels in the Raleigh, Wake Forest, or NC RTP area as this time. If you have any personal recommendations about this or any other business category, please email a brief comment, whether it is positive or negative, and whether or not the recommendation is biased.

Traffic is Terrible! |
|
|
|
If you are visiting Raleigh or are in the Triangle area on business, perhaps at Research Triangle Park, the roads from Wake Forest to Raleigh are a huge traffic jam due to Wake Forest approving more and more building construction without having adequate highway planning. If you drive into work at 5:30 am, there is no traffic, but if you wait until 5:45 it starts. By 7:15 it is at a standstill going from Capital Blvd to Raleigh. The sideroads do not fair much better, with frequent waits of two or three traffic light revolutions just to get through an intersection. Just a few years ago, you could drive to Raleigh at just about any time of day. The NC DOT is a few years behind in it’s planning.
The traffic to RTP on the Raleigh beltline gets even worse. If you are heading from Wake Forest to the RTP, get onto the new 540 beltline. From Wake Forest, getting to and from the 540 beltline is where you’ll find the most problems. The worst times are from 7:30am until 9:15 am. On the ride home, the traffic starts getting bad at 2:45 pm and lasts until about 6:15 pm.
In the early winter months of 2005, Raleigh received a dusting of less than 1/2” of snow. All over the area, traffic was at such a standstill that schoolkids had to stay overnight!! Motels and hotels were immediately sold out.
Truthfully, the best time to visit Wake Forest is on a Sunday. Now that the gas prices are high, the traffic is substantially decreased to the point that most people of lower to moderate income do not travel unless they have a motorcycle or tiny car that delivers more than 50 mpg.
